Netball Queensland thanks Romelda Aiken-George for all her achievements with the Queensland Firebirds, after confirmation the Jamaican international’s 15-year association with the club has come to an end.
Arriving in Queensland as a teenager after the 2007 World Cup, Aiken-George made 198 appearances for the Firebirds and was part of our three championship-winning teams.
The 196cm goaler also secured multiple individual honours including being named ANZ Championship MVP on three occasions and multiple Firebirds’ MVP awards.
Despite the offer of a Firebirds training partner contract for the 2023 Suncorp Super Netball season, Aiken-George has decided to take up a new opportunity.
Netball Queensland Chief Executive Kate Davies said Aiken-George leaves an incredible legacy.
“Romelda is a true Firebirds legend with a record at the club that will be near impossible to emulate,” Netball Queensland Chief Executive Kate Davies said.
“Her incredible scoring records and role in some of the Firebirds’ most iconic moments are etched in our history and will never be forgotten.
“We wish her all the best for her future.”
The Firebirds head into the 2023 Suncorp Super Netball season with Australian Diamonds goalers Gretel Bueta, Donnell Wallam and long-range shooter Mia Stower aiming to build their strong and proven combination.
