Your Firebirds are heading to South Australia this weekend to take on the Adelaide Thunderbirds at Priceline Stadium on Sunday 26th May at 3pm (local time).
The Firebirds have been dealt another injury blow with long-serving goal shooter Romelda Aiken ruled out of this weekend’s clash against the Adelaide Thunderbirds with a bone stress injury to her tibia.
Romelda landed awkwardly in last weekend’s game against the Giants and has experienced some discomfort since. The Firebirds medical team will monitor her response to treatment and assess her again next week. Along with many other players, Romelda is keen to be available for the Netball World Cup in July as well as getting back on the court for the Firebirds as soon as possible.
This will be just the second time Romelda has been ruled out with an injury. The last time she was ruled out was also against the Thunderbirds and on that occasion Romelda was replaced by Abigail Latu-Meafou (who played with the Firebirds in 2017) and this weekend Abigail will step in for Romelda again.
In addition to Romelda, Kim Jenner remains unavailable and will be replaced this week by Bridey Condren, one of the Firebirds training partners. Amy Sommerville will again replace Tippah Dwan.
The Firebirds have faced a tough start to this Suncorp Super Netball season but despite the injuries they have been facing, feel well prepared to bring home their first win this weekend.
Sunday’s game will be broadcast on Telstra TV or the Netball Live Official App.
