Entering her fifth season as a full-time Firebird, two-time Laura Geitz Medallist Ruby Bakewell-Doran has cemented her place as the club’s standout defender and an emerging leader.

In 2025 she was named co-captain, leading the team for the first time while maintaining her consistent impact.

Ever-present for three straight seasons, the Queensland pathways product tallied 15 intercepts, 34 deflections and 23 rebounds in 2025 after ranking second in the league for minutes played in 2024.

Debuting for Australia in 2022 as Diamond No.188, Bakewell-Doran has overcome significant setbacks, including an ACL injury in her teens, to become a key figure for both the Firebirds and Diamonds. Her value to the club was reinforced with a three-year contract extension signed at the end of 2023.

Off the court she is a keen home renovator with fiancé Jake, a devoted dog mum, and is learning Greek in her spare time.
