Ruby Bakewell-Doran

Two-time Laura Geitz Medallist Ruby Bakewell-Doran returns for her sixth season as a full-time Firebird after re-signing with the club for the 2027 Suncorp Super Netball campaign.

One of the competition’s most consistent and durable defenders, Bakewell-Doran has played 72 consecutive matches for the Firebirds stretching back to Round 13 of the 2021 season. That remarkable run has taken her overall tally to 73 appearances in the Purple dress.

Her durability is matched by a genuine story of resilience. After overcoming a significant ACL injury during her teenage years, the Queensland pathways product progressed to the elite level and made her international debut in 2022 as Australian Diamond No.188.

Combining athleticism, competitiveness and an ability to create possession, Firebird No.103 remains an important member of the club’s defensive unit and leadership group.

Off the court, Bakewell-Doran enters 2027 with plenty to celebrate after marrying her long-time partner, Jake, during the off-season.
